Gifts that give twice

With KadoPool, it's possible to do more with a single act of generosity. Link a non-profit and the gift gives twice.

The best part? It doesn't cost a dime to me or my contributors. KadoPool gives 30% of its fee to the organization I choose.

The gift stays whole

  • The person I'm thanking gets the whole gift. The organization's share comes out of KadoPool's own fee, never out of the gift.
  • My contributors pay nothing more. The fees are the same with or without an organization: Stripe's card processing and KadoPool's 2%, as on every pool. See pricing
  • It isn't a donation, so there's no tax receipt. My contributors give a gift to a person. The organization's share is a payment from KadoPool, not from them.

What the organization gets

30% of KadoPool's fee on the pool: a modest amount on its own, which adds up across every pool linked to the organization.

Example: a $500 class gift

20 parents give $25 each$500.00
KadoPool's fee (2%)$10.00
The school's share (30% of that fee)$3.00
The teacher's giftUnchanged

KadoPool's fee is 2% of each payment, at most $5 a payment. The share is 30% of it, before any sales tax.

  • It's paid with the organization's next payout. KadoPool records the share when I send the gift, then pays the organization every quarter once its balance reaches $50, otherwise once a year from $25, less Stripe's payout fee. Smaller balances carry over.
  • The organization sees it in its reports. After each quarter with activity, and in a yearly statement by January 15, it sees how many pools were linked to it, what they collected and its share. KadoPool doesn't send organizers a notice when it pays.

The organization I choose

  • Any US nonprofit the IRS recognizes. Our school or PTA, the soccer club, the food bank, the animal shelter. My child's school or a club I help run is fine too: the share goes to the organization, never to a person.
  • Paid only once it's verified. The organization gives its EIN, which KadoPool checks against the IRS list of tax-exempt organizations, shows it speaks for the organization, and has Stripe verify it and its bank account. It confirms all this once a year, and KadoPool reviews each payout before it goes out.
  • Not on KadoPool yet? I pick it anyway. KadoPool invites it, without naming me, the person I'm thanking or the pool, and keeps its share for it. If it hasn't joined 12 months after the first pool linked to it closes, the share stays with KadoPool; the app says so before I confirm. A word from me helps it join quickly.

Who sees what

  • My contributors stay private. The organization never gets their names, e-mail addresses or amounts, nor mine or the recipient's. It sees totals only.
  • Everyone knows the gift gives twice. My contributors see the organization when they chip in, with a line saying 30% of KadoPool's fee goes to it and their gift is untouched. When the gift is ready, the person I'm thanking learns it also supported the organization.

Any occasion, and I can change my mind

  • Every gift pool. Birthdays, farewells, weddings, teacher thank-yous, get-well and sympathy gifts: I can link an organization to any of them.
  • I can change my mind until I send the gift. In Edit pool, I pick another organization or remove it. The one linked when I send the gift receives the share of the whole pool.

How it works

  1. I start the pool in the app and pick the organization under Gifts that give twice.
  2. Friends and family chip in, as usual.
  3. I send the gift. KadoPool sets aside 30% of its fee for the organization.
